It's like a Golf, but Porschier.

I meant to write about it before. The new Beetle is a fantastic driving car. I enjoy the Golf, but the Beetle just somehow takes the cake for me. I like the quirky looks, I like the basic interior, and I love the way it encourages me to find its limit in every regard and drive it there all the time.

The flat bottomed wheel with no buttons is a nice touch, and the simple interior reminds you that the Beetle is about the fun of driving. The seat bolsters you in very well, and there's plenty of elbow room for quick steering

I hate the armrest though. It's terrible and gets in the way of completing hand brake turns.

On a separate note, the Mini clubman is a bit of a let down. Steering is magnetic, but I'm not a fan of the close ratio gearing or the enormous lack of power.

And you can trick it out performance-wise with toys from it's sibling, the GTI. Stiffer suspension, etc.

I hate the Armrest in the MKIV jettas/golfs. I have to either put it all the way up, or all the way down., it gets in the way of my elbow.

Porsche: It's like a Beetle, just more consistent in it's design language.

Drove a new beetle rental car for when we went to the Austin GP. My wife and I really enjoyed it, and it was the most fun car on the lot when we went to pick it. It was affectionately known as the "race bug" all weekend. The turbo engines are way peppier than they used to be!

Nice! I always recommend my customers to it when im not trying to upsell them.

I worked the midnight shift this week (rental lot @OHare), and got to drive it around an empty lot. Set up cones to slalom through. Its fantastic. Very peppy, turbo on these suckers.

try the arm rest in the Rabbit refresh (2005 area) .... Oh that's right, there is no armrest. My sister has an 06 i took out a few times and it's really awkward not having a place for your right elbow to go.

Aren't the current Beetles still built on the MK6 Golf platform?

If so, the turbo versions are just like a mild version of the GTI. Same engine / transmission, just a smidgen softer on the suspension tuning so it rides better. The interiors on the higher trim levels are almost at Audi levels as well.
